Dr. John Maher

Lead, Psychiatry

Dr. John Maher is Psychiatry Lead at Collingwood General and Marine Hospital, Team Psychiatrist with the Mobile Acute Psychiatry Service (MAPS), and Team Psychiatrist for the South Georgian Bay Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team through the Canadian Mental Health Association.

Dr. Maher completed his medical training at McMaster University and his psychiatry residency at the University of Ottawa. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and holds degrees in philosophy and medical ethics.

With more than 20 years of experience as a consulting psychiatrist for ACT teams, Dr. Maher has dedicated much of his career to supporting individuals living with severe and persistent mental illness in community settings. He has also provided leadership to a range of mental health programs and services throughout Ontario.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Maher is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Ethics in Mental Health, President of the Ontario Association for ACT & FACT (OAAF), and President of the Global Assertive Community Treatment Association (GACTA).
