CGMH is seeking Patient and Family Advisors, and Patient, Family, and Caregiver Advisory Committee members.

What is Patient, Family and Caregiver engagement at CGMH?

Patient, family and caregiver engagement is focused on increasing the role of patients and family members to enhance health care delivery, health outcomes, and community involvement.

Who is involved in Patient, Family and Caregiver engagement at CGMH?

Formed in 2017, the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital Patient, Family and Caregiver Advisory Committee is comprised of patients, family members, patient representatives and hospital staff.


CGMH has two levels of patient, family and caregiver engagement:

The Patient Family Advisor Role (PFA)

CGMH's patient, family and caregiver engagement begins as a Patient Family Advisory (PFA). A PFA is a member who partners with CGMH health care professionals to improve health care for everyone.

  • They provide as much time as they are willing and able to
  • They apply through our PFA online application
  • They have prior experience with CGMH, as either a patient, family member of a patient, or caregiver
  • Participate in CGMH committees, working groups, and projects to provide the patient and family voice to hospital activities.

The Patient, Family, and Caregiver Advisory Committee Role (PFCAC)

A PFCAC member participates on an advisory body to the hospital; which provides patient perspectives and advice on strategic health priorities that have an impact on care and health care experience of patients.

  • They commit to a 2-year term
  • They are available to meet every 2 months for 2 hours
  • They apply through our PFCAC online application
  • They have prior experience with CGMH, as either a patient, family member of a patient, or caregiver

You're the right fit for PFCAC, if you:

  • Have experience as a CGMH patient, family member or caregiver
  • Bring diversity to the committee with respect to location, age, gender, background, culture, and health service-related experiences
  • Have a desire to work collaboratively with CGMH in improving the quality, safety and experience of patient care
  • Participate in 2 hour bi-monthly meetings (every other month)
