Tomorrow is Built Today:
CGMH and CGMH Foundation Launch Bold Vision for the Future

Collingwood General and Marine Hospital (CGMH) and the CGMH Foundation proudly announce the launch of Tomorrow is Built Today, a momentous initiative to redefine healthcare in South Georgian Bay, encompassing CGMH’s five-year strategic plan and CGMH Foundation’s $100 million fundraising campaign.

CGMH’s new strategic plan arrives at a pivotal moment. Like hospitals across Ontario, CGMH continues to navigate the lasting effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, workforce shortages, and rising demand for care. At the same time, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is before our community: a new hospital is coming to South Georgian Bay.

“The hospital of tomorrow is no longer just a vision – it’s taking shape today,” said Michael Lacroix, President and CEO of CGMH. “This plan is our roadmap to delivering outstanding care today, while building the foundation for our future hospital. We are committed to ensuring that South Georgian Bay remains a place where people can thrive with access to high quality healthcare close to home.”

Over the next five years, CGMH is focused on elevating quality through best practices, developing a high-performing and inspired team, and creating capacity to serve our growing population – including breaking ground on the new hospital.

Bringing a new hospital to life requires community support. While the provincial government funds up to 90% of hospital construction costs, the remaining 10%, along with 100% of medical equipment and furnishings, must be funded locally.

To meet this need, the CGMH Foundation has launched a capital fundraising campaign with a goal of raising more than $100 million. Headlining the campaign is a hopeful and aspirational message, a rallying cry for the community: “We are out of space. But we are never out of hope. Tomorrow is built today.” Thanks to the generosity of leadership donors, more than $65 million has already been pledged. The campaign aims to raise the remaining funds from the community – residents and visitors alike – who will benefit from a modern, state-of-the-art hospital, purpose-built for South Georgian Bay’s growing needs.

“The Campaign Cabinet and our volunteers have been working together for the past few years to secure the funds needed for the ‘local share’ of this once-in-a-generation project,” said Gord Canning, Co-Chair of the Tomorrow Fundraising Campaign. “We are deeply thankful to the leadership donors who understand the importance of investing today to build South Georgian Bay’s Hospital of Tomorrow. Now we invite you to join this incredible effort.”

The next five years will define the future of healthcare in South Georgian Bay. CGMH and the CGMH Foundation are working together to balance today’s needs with the promise of tomorrow’s hospital. Through strategic actions and the generosity of our community, we will build a stronger, healthier South Georgian Bay together.
