On Tuesday, February 1, 2022, the Ministry of Health (MOH) announced that it would begin a slow and gradual ramp up to the cancellation of non-urgent surgeries and outpatient procedures, and has implemented a revised Directive #2.

As a result, and in line with the province's gradual approach to the easing of public health measures, the Ministry is taking a phased approach to resuming select health services deferred in January 2022 and will monitor the impact of the gradual resumption on overall health system capacity.

The revised Directive #2 allows for the cautious and gradual resumption of:

  • diagnostic imaging
  • cancer screening (endoscopy)
  • some scheduled ambulatory clinics

Emergent surgeries and procedures will continue. Scheduled surgeries will resume in a phased approach, cautiously and gradually over the coming weeks. Careful resumption of activities in targeted areas must ensure inpatient capacity and health human resources are not impacted.

The Ministry will continue to monitor the effects of Directive #2 on hospital systems and pivot as necessary.
