COVID-19 Outbreak Declared on CGMH’s Medical and Surgical Unit
In collaboration with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU), a COVID-19 outbreak has been declared on the Medical unit of Collingwood General & Marine Hospital (CGMH), in addition to the Surgical outbreak declared yesterday.
To safeguard patients and staff, visitor restrictions are now in effect for both the Medical and Surgical unit. Visitors are only permitted in cases involving palliative or end-of-life patients, for essential caregivers, or with prior approval from the Department Manager or Resource Nurse.
As a precautionary measure, universal masking is mandatory on both the Surgical and Medical units. This includes all areas of the floors, inclusive of patient rooms, for both team members and visitors (where permitted). Visitors are kindly asked to refrain from eating and drinking in patient rooms, although the hospital’s cafeteria remains open for their use.
We remind all visitors who are feeling unwell to postpone their visit until they have fully recovered. We also encourage everyone to practice diligent hand hygiene by using the sanitizing stations as they enter the hospital and throughout their visit, to help prevent the spread of illness.
CGMH appreciates the community’s cooperation and understanding as we continue to take all necessary precautions to protect the health and safety of our patients, staff, and visitors.
