Collingwood General and Marine Hospital (CGMH) is pleased to welcome two new members to its Board of Directors, Stephen Liptrap and Carl Virtanen, following appointments at the hospital’s Annual Meeting.
Stephen Liptrap brings more than 25 years of leadership experience across healthcare, technology, and professional services. He is the former President and CEO of LifeWorks, where he led significant organizational growth and transformation, with a strong focus on employee engagement, mental health, and governance.
Carl Virtanen is a senior healthcare technology executive with more than two decades of experience leading digital transformation in complex hospital environments. As Chief Technology Officer at University Health Network, Canada’s largest academic health sciences centre, he oversees a large, integrated digital organization and brings deep expertise in digital strategy, cybersecurity, and system performance.
Both Stephen and Carl share a strong commitment to giving back to the community they call home through their service on the CGMH Board.
“On behalf of the Board, I’m delighted to welcome Stephen and Carl to CGMH,” said Geoff Davies, Board Chair. “They bring valuable perspectives and leadership experience that will strengthen our governance as we build on the first year of our five-year strategic plan, Tomorrow is Built Today, and continue to make progress in elevating quality, developing our team, and creating capacity for our growing region.”
CGMH also extends its sincere thanks to outgoing Board members Chris Hoffmann and Mark Saunders for their leadership and meaningful contributions over the course of their terms.
Chris Hoffmann, who joined the Board in 2021, served as Chair of the Risk Committee, where he played a critical role in strengthening CGMH’s approach to risk management, governance oversight, and strategic decision-making. His leadership supported the Board in navigating complex challenges while maintaining a strong focus on quality and patient safety.
Mark Saunders, a Board member since 2020 and Chair of the Hospital Development Committee, provided influential leadership during a pivotal period in CGMH’s journey to expand capacity and advance plans for a new hospital for South Georgian Bay. His expertise helped guide strategic planning and oversight of the hospital development project, supporting progress toward a future state-of-the-art facility.
