CGMH along with various community partners, have been preparing for the influx of visitors to the region for the past few months.

"As a hospital, providing timely access to patient care is of top concern, however we also want our employees to feel supported during this busy time of year. Therefore, we are making a significant financial contribution and up staffing many areas throughout the hospital over the holiday period, to help with the increased volumes we anticipate through our doors, especially with the ski hills in full operation." says Norah Holder, CGMH president and CEO.

However, there are other options for those with minor ailments, such as mild cold and flu symptoms, sore throats, sprains and strains, tooth pain, lower back pain, pink eye and rashes, apart from the Hospital's ED. The After Hours Clinic, located in the Erie Street Medical Building behind the hospital is available to help combat the volumes expected to come through the community over the holidays. The After Hours Clinic is open from Monday to Friday from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m., and sees patients on a first come, first served basis. Closed: December: 24, 25, 26, 31 and January 1.

Additionally, The Same Day Clinic, located in the Erie Street Medical Building, is run by a Nurse Practitioner and is open Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and anyone can call to book a same day appointment for minor ailments, if they don't have a local family physician or their physician is away. The number is 705-445-0333. The clinic will be closed: December 24, 25, 26, 31 and January 1.

Lastly, the Wasaga Beach After Hours Clinic at 14 Ramblewood Dr, Unit 202, Wasaga Beach is open:

  • Monday and Wednesday 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Thursday and Friday 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

As influenza transmission starts to increase, the community is reminded it's not too late to get your flu shot! Various doctors' offices and pharmacies around town are still offering shots.
